You had to see this coming after that whole Howard Stern Thing. With Clear Channel owning as many stations nationwide as it does, there had to be a domino effect. I'm sure WEBN wont be the last one they look into.

Burris is the classic example of someone who cannot handle something himself so he wants to project his own problems on society as a whole. If he can't handle it no one should do it basically is his mentality. Same mind set as Prohibition. Don't like it don't look at it (listen to it) but don't impose your own demons on everyone else is my opinion...

I am pissed off about Stern. I listen to him on 97.3 until I get out of range, then I used to switch over too 100.5 in Louisville. Can't do that anymore because of ClearAnal.

It is getting to be absurd, and it's only going to backfire in the end.

Howard Stern does not bother me, but then again I don't watch him or listen to his show. (Even though my 79 yr mother does.) [img]confused.gif[/img]

I think the only difference with Janet Jackson's exposure is, it was not expected.

Sorry, I'don't have a problem with Stern being yanked. And I also don't have a problem with the FCC tightening up a few radio stations. A lot of them are using crude and increasingly shocking behavior in order to cover up true talent and lack of imagination. "Hey!, if I can't amaze them with my intellect and interesting programming, I'll just say 'fuck' a few times, show some tits and I"ll be fine"

I still think supply/demand should control content. If you don't like shock jocks, don't listen to them. I don't. Same as "adult entertainment". It offends you? (you in a general sense not anyone specifically on this board) Don't go in. Song lyrics offensive? Don't listen. The larger principle here is free speech. Face it, if it doesn't offend anyone or it is accepted by the population at large then by definition it does not need protection under the 1st amendment. That which offends or makes waves is exactly what is supposed to be protected under the 1st amendment. One person finds one thing offensive and another finds it amusing. Throw it out there and let supply/demand decide.

I agree with your statement in principle GL. But what if I decide I don't want to listen to Stern because he's talking about gay porno so I change my channel to another station and hear Bubba the Love Sponge talking about doing someone's mother. I don't like him so I change the station again to WEBN and hear some other kind of crap.

Do you see where I'm going here. At what point do I not have to change the channel when every channel I change to is trying to one up the next station by putting more and more shocking (read crap) on the air.

I applaud Clearchannel for taking the stand they did. Probably won't last long but it's a start.

Yeah, and what makes it even more shocking that this is coming from a special forces guy! I thought they were built to last.

The supply/demand should dictate the market. I realize radio is a unique situation in that there are only so many frequencies available for use. I think the government was wrong to allow ClearChannel and Infinity to buy every radio station out there (I miss the old days of independent radio). But that said, the ratings don't lie, and Howard is, by far, the highest-rated radio show in history, and it's not even close. (Rush has the most listeners, but he's on about 6 times the number of stations as Howard; on a per-market basis, Howard is the King of all Media).
